RC10 B74 Team Kit – Team Associated (TA, RC10B74) Review

Team Associated RC10B74

On April 9, 2019, Team Associated introduced its newest RC10 buggy. The RC10 B74, the successor to the B64. The kit features an extreme makeover continuing to keep the Team Associated brand ahead of its competitors. The kit features like easy-access, quick-aluminum bulkheads, and arm mounts providing precision and strength. The shocks have also been updated to provide increased stroke length. This added length allows the car more reliability and consistency when landing jumps which helps the driver with more control. The kit also includes, a modular vertical ball stud mount included in the new rear hub assembly. In addition, the kit includes fine roll center adjustments achieved through setting the car’s axle height.

  • 2mm hard-anodized 7075-T6 aluminum chassis provides improved flex characteristics and minimal mass
  • 2.5mm graphite center bulkhead brace for improved stiffness and reduced mass

  • Ball bearing raced 7075-T6 aluminum steering rack and composite steering bellcranks with 2.5mm graphite input arms offer optimized Ackermann and adjustable steering rate
  • New steering blocks with larger outer ball bearing and increased bearing spacing for improved durability

Differential and Slipper

  • Quick-change adjustable differential height with 7075-T6 aluminum bulkheads. Four independent front and rear diff heights possible.
  • Easy-access differentials for worry-free maintenance and adjustment
  • Fluid-filled gear differentials with machined ring gears, front and rear
  • Updated 3-pad slipper assembly allows the use of center differential without changing the center bone length

  • Optimized suspension arm geometry with improved durability and stiffness
  • New symmetric rear arms with improved geometry can be flipped to allow a “split” for rear shock mounting position
  • 7075-T6 aluminum arm mounts with optimized roll center positions use inserts, which allow fine-tuning for a large range of anti-squat, kick-up, and toe adjustments
  • Common front and rear anti-roll bars to minimize spare part count
  • Anti-roll bar sets for both carpet/turf and dirt included

Additional features

  • CVA assemblies for center drive-line with aligned shafts for minimal torque loss and improved efficiency
  • New rear hub assembly with modular vertical ball stud camber link mounts and axle height system for precise roll center adjustments
  • Outer rear hinge pins captured with bolt head and lock nut for increased durability
  • 7075-T6 aluminum motor mount and 7075-T6 aluminum center bulkhead have increased rigidity to maintain more accurate gear mesh
  • New 2.5mm graphite battery strap with sliding support tabs for fine tuning battery position (accepts any R.O.A.R. approved 2S “shorty” packs)
  • 7075-T6 aluminum 9-degree caster blocks
  • “Floating” servo mount with 7075-T6 aluminum mount and 2.5mm graphite brace
  • Factory Team ball bearing set with 26 precision ball bearings, now oiled instead of greased for more efficient drivetrain
  • Aluminum clamping wheel hexes, front, and rear
  • Lightweight clear body and clearwing included

Team Associated RC10B74 Team Kit 4wd Buggy is web priced at $519.99 (MSRP $779.99) and is available as the part number #90026.

Triumph TR250 Valencia Blue Formula

So, I’ve researched over the past few weeks to find the perfect mix of the old 1968 Triumph Valencia Blue.  Finally, I hit the jackpot!   So, to share my excitement with the world I am publishing my findings for this 50+-year-old color, simply gorgeous.  The formula is a true match (not tinted) and can be taken to anyone that sells PPG products to mix it up.  The formula is specifically for dual stage systems (Basecoat + Clearcoat) and specifically for the PPG Deltron DBC finishing products.  The current mix is set up for making 1 Quart (US).  Have fun and I hope to see more Valencia Blue Triumph’s out in the wild.

PPG code 13547 – Triumph TR250 – Valencia Blue

This blue automotive paint color is most commonly known as Valencia Blue. The color formulation has been used between 1966 and 1972, primarily by Triumph. See the full detailed list below.

13547 is a paint code for PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) who has been providing automotive paints since 1924 (originally Ditzler Color Company subsidiary acquired in 1928). PPG/Ditzler codes in the 10000 to 95000 range were used on new paint formulations from the late 1930’s to 1968. PPG/Ditzler codes in the 10000 to 19999 range are primarily shades of blue. These PPG codes serve as a great way to track the usage of paint between and within vehicle manufacturers.

My Lotus Elan S2 / 26R Fuel Injection System / Setup

So, I purchased a complete second-hand fuel injection setup this past weekend.  The system will replace my Weber DCOE 40 cabs with a Jenvey throttle body.  The system comprises of the following parts:

Jenvey 45DCOE 45mm bore x 118mm long (TBP45i) (setup instructions) - $563.53
Jenvey Fuel Rail Kit (TBR22) - $95.54 USD
4X Air Horn 45mm x 40(AH45x40) - $132.92 USD
Air-filter back plate (ABB2/0M) - $64.00 USD
Throttle Position Sensor (TP8RH) - $135.00 USD
Coil Pack (Sagem Coil-4) ~ $50.00 USD
ITG Air filter (JC50/65) - $128.95
Fuel Injectors 4x(Ford F5DE-B5A / Bosch Part 0280155715) - $99.96 USD
Fuel Pressure Regulator (Weldon 2040-281-A-120) - $250.00 USD
Crank Position Sensor (Facet 90036) - $38.90
SBD Motorsports Serial type MBE ECU + Mapping Software - MBE 967EB8 - $250.00 USD
Throttle Linkage ~ $100.00
Crank Sensor Bracket ~ $25.00
Crank Pulley and Crank Fire Wheel Fuel Pump ~ $75.00
Wiring Harness ~ $150.00
Plug Wires ~ $65.00

The total would have come to about: $2,223.80 but I purchased it for around $1000.00 including shipping to Denver, CO.  I’m really excited about this.  No more fiddling with the Weber DCOE Carburetors which is quite the relief.  Considering that the altitude in Denver is around 5280 feet above sea level, this system should allow my 1965 Lotus Elan project to take things to the next level.

The mapping software can be found here (Software: mbe easimap 5.5) and requires the old RS232 connector to be used to connect the ECU / MBE unit.  Now with the extinction of the RS232, I’ll likely have to purchase a USB to RS232 Serial converter.  SBDev has issued a note on this if in the event the Baud rate has issues communicating.  “The Baud rate on Easimap 5 automatically varies according to what it is able to communicate at. If you are having a real problem with your USB to serial converter, it is possible within the software to slow the Baud rate right down manually, however, the problem may be that your USB to serial converter is not compatible with your computer. We normally use a Targus or Belkin for our Dell computers, but this doesn’t mean to say that either of these will be suitable for yours. It appears to be that each computer seems to be fussy & you will need to find a converter that suits your own brand.”

I’m really looking forward to the rock solid idle, starting up the first time every time, and the ability to climb up the hill (Vail or Breck at around 12,000 ft.).
